Topsite advertising and promoting

I know that once a topsite is big enough it sells itself but what do you do to get your site of the ground and help speed this up what methods do you use to advertise and promote you site. For example do you list your site on other topsites or in directories?

Tbh I haven't thought that far! My plan have always been to reach out to interested people in that particular field. Just let them now that I exists and the + sides of joining instead of a more general site. But then again my nische is fairly narrow with good borders (Paganism & Divination in Sweden). I guess yours is a tad harder. However, linking your site to other directories was actually a good idea! Ponder, ponder...
