How to get people to sign up to your toplist?

Hello friends!

Sorry if this has been written somewhere, but I cannot see it, so here goes...

What are some of the best ways that you have found for getting people to sign up for and actively use your toplist?

(by use I mean, send traffic to their voting page on your toplist)

I will go first...

I have been just Googling for sites which match what my toplist does, and then trying to email them, but so far not very effective. I have sent about 100 emails, and had 2 signups.

I actually did the same back in the days, was very effective for me, maybe just luck who knows. If you do that, usually i find getting 1 big site on your list is enough. Their competitors will start to copy them and join also. And so it goes on.
