Critical size

Once again I am in a crearive bubblezone and thinking of all the lists I want to create. But I have come,to realize that most of the nisches I choose is fairly small, but are they too small?

Anyone have an estimate of what is the critical size of pontential members/pages if I want to have a living and dynamic list? Basicly how small is to small?

I personally like 100+ sites. Though i must say my topsites were all big niches, so i might as well would always want that number even for the less common niches.
