About banners

Been thinking of banners used by members lately. How Do we look at them: visual name tags -Hi this is me! Or ads to get people to click on the banner and visit your site - Come and see me, come and buy me!

Guess that depends on your niche. I personally would never click a banner which says click me or the sorts.

In general, people respond much better to a banner with a good call to action, believe it or not if you don't tell someone to "click here" many users will not even know the intention. First rule of banner design is always include a call to action, there have been many case studies done over the years with the 2 most effective ways to increase clicks on banners being "use blue text links" (to indicate hyperlink) and remind the user they are supposed to "Click Here" and give them a highly visible button. Banners are not artwork, they are a marketing tool so something eye catching with a good call to action will almost always bring the best results.
