Tips on producing a quality topsite.

1) Don't make a general topsite, but rather choose a niche that is not saturated.
2) Because of my niche, most people who join my topsite are complete beginners for webdesign. They usually used some kind of site builder so they have no idea how to add the topsite code. I created a video showing how to add the code. Found more people adding the code after posting the video.
3) I added a piece of code in user_cpl where members can leave a review from their website. I have found that members keep coming back to my topsite to see the reviews.
4) Keep spam out. Nobody will stay long if it looks like all spam on the topsite. You will have a high bounce rate.
5) Use tools like Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics to see what areas and keywords you need improving in.
6) For SEO reasons, add a few articles with unique content on them.

Yes, I created a few new pages and added unique content that was relevant to my topsites niche.

While doing searches for other sites I have come across many sites that do not seem to make use of the SEO plugin so you get a result like

My VisioList Login. Username Password. Add Your ... Your Site · User Control Panel. Stats. Script Execution Time: 0.3581; Members: 0; Powered by VisioList 0.7.
This doesn't give the person doing the search any clue of what the site is about other that maybe the url if it is relevant but I do not see these sites getting any visitors this way as I would certainly not visit a site that has no indication of what they offer in my search findings.
I would suggest sites should start making use of the meta title and meta descriptions

Lets say u got gaming topsite and u advertise Fashion ads ... that sux
3. Reviews / Guides / and stuff like that will attract more people to visit each day and browsing more on ur website
4. Recent activity - This is the best part of the website ... thats how youtube got lots of peoples and views
If you got 2 minutes to watch video till the end. video ends and shows next videos related to that you have viewed before
This is very simmilar like... Recent comments / recent reviews and stuff like that
5. Clean forums / website - Do not allow spammers, and users insult other users...
Lets say random member say : " This page sux ... join mine coz its better. "
6. Lots of SEO optimization - Again focus on what kind of words you wanna be on top search engines...
7. Unique is the key - Hire Developer to get beautiful design
8. Pay some advertisments ( campains ) like google ads to advert ur toplist - This attracts lots of users

Noone beside you will search for that
Normal user searches will get a description best fitting the search term. So dont pay to much attention to description. And like i said before somewhere, dont think to much of meta keywords
In many cases google just uses your meta description if you just search for your site url, or you wanna see your indexed page ( site:yoursite.com )

Hi I appreciate that the description and keywords are a small factor regarding the search engines, my point is that as a user having done a search say for example a lingerie topsite site or just lingerie.

If the google search results came up as the sample above what in that result lets me know that this is a Lingerie topsite or a site that has anything to do with lingerie.
In the first image of a search I have done what are the two sites listed about? there is not much of in indication other than in one of the urls the site may have something to do with dolls.
In the second image of a search what google provides, gives me the person searching an indication what I can expect if I follow the link to the site.
Or do we just ignore how our sites show up in the search results and hope that they will gain users by word of mouth and people finding our banners and buttons on other relevant sites?

I dont get what the issue right now is Karl.
On your first search you clearly searched for VisioList - which brings up sites fitting that. And the description is created by google, best fitting your search query - visiolist.
If he had meta description which would be more fitting to the query it would display that ( not guaranteed, google becomes more dynmaic in the results as well, to prevent wrong data displayed to searching users ), like on the second image. If the page content provide a more fitting phrase they will contruct that instead ( and iam not 100% sure but i think google more likely construct it themself ).
