First time using Visio list, still learning how all of the plugins fit together. Made a rough mistake of editing the main template instead of the child one. That will probably cost me in future updates..

Good start, best of luck with it

As far as child goes, if you remember the html files you edited, just move them into the child folder using ftp or the edit child feature in admin.
Next time you update the core, files are back in place and you still have your edits.

Though you need to apply you css edits to user.css again incase you added it to screen.css
