What is a unique vote anyway?

I would like to know this as currently it appears a unique vote is simply anyone that has voted that day. However there are statistics for unique and total which would indicate that this is not the case.

I only ask because I feel like somehow people are being gyped on unique votes because it's not recognizing their IP as "unique" even if it's their first post that day even though it likely should.

A unique vote is a click in from an IP address that is not in the ip_log.

The ip_log is emptied on the first click after midnight via psuedo cron. So once a day the ip_log is reset.
